On January 8 this year, Tesla registered its Indian subsidiary in Bangalore. With its brand value and popularity, the news became trending in no time. However, experts believe that it is going to be a long road for Tesla in the Indian automobile market.
●
Infrastructural barriers
At present, there are about 500 power stations in India when there is a requirement of at least 2600 as of now which limits the services for electric cars in India than for the motor cars.
●
High price
The Indian market has one of the highest interest rates in the world. Taxes that reach up to 50% and high import duties can result in a potential barrier. However with time, if the company starts manufacturing in India, electric cars may become affordable.
●
Autopilot mode
Considering Indian Road conditions and driving practices, it will be a task for the Indian audience to enjoy the autopilot mode of the car.
●
Electric over fossil
There is still a large portion of Indian population unaware of the environmental hazards caused by
motor vehicles. For the company to do well in the market, more awareness and
education needs to be spread about going electric as the Indian audience is
unaware of environmental problems posed by motor vehicles.
Tesla is preparing to debut on the Indian roads with the model 3 Sedan. It is the company's most affordable model and will come to India as a CBU.
●
Design
Unique LED headlamps and tail lamps, strong character lines over the wheel arches add on to the design of the car.
●
Features
From a ginormous touch screen to autopilot mode, model 3 is loaded with features in the US. However, it is unknown if the company will offer these features in India or not.
●
Price
Looks like even
Tesla's most affordable car is likely to appeal the Indians considering its
extravagant price. The starting price is expected to range from about INR 55 -
60 lakh.
