A Device that lets you converse silently- ALTEREGO

AlterEgo is a wearable device which is a wearable headset enabled device developed by Arnuv Kapur in MIT research laboratory. He was working on this project for very long and he demonstrated it on the stage for the first time in TED Talks 2019 in Vancouver.
It focuses to provide support in communications for people with speech disorders in conditions like ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) and MS (multiple sclerosis), among others. This system has the potential to seamlessly integrate humans and computers such that the computer, the AI and computing become our “second self” and help us expand our knowledge and perform beyond our abilities.

The sensors of the headset are powerful enough to detect the signals the brain sends to internal speech mechanisms, namely, the tongue or larynx, when you speak to yourself. The headset allows humans to communicate with machines such as the artificial intelligence assistants, services and other people without even externally observable movements and without even opening your mouth, but by simply verbalizing the words internally. Now the question is how does the feedback reach the user? There is a simple solution to it it simply happens either through audio or through bone conduction, without even disrupting the user’s usual auditory perception, and making this interface a closed-loop. AlterEgo simply receives the internal vibrations and then transmits to the AI embedded int he device whose task is to translate it into a language.

It aims to bring AI in closer communications with humans to augment our capabilities unobtrusively. Although the manner in which it works is quite undetectable- because it is not just reading your thoughts, but to decide to use it consciously. AlterEgo aims to cognitively augment humans, and change the way they communicate. AlterEgo wants to enable a discreet giveaway to digital information and make the interaction intrinsic rather than extrinsic.

The currently available interfaces act as a barrier for effortless and private human-machine communication. People have to either deliberately shift attention from the surroundings to type, or they have to speak out their private messages loudly in public. Here the AlterEgo comes handly in order to overcome these barriers by allowing the users to communicate with a computer silently and seamlessly interfacing, without the need for explicit actions. It works by enabling a method of human-computer interaction without even obstructing the user’s usual perception, and lets the user be there in her surroundings.

It enables users with a wide range of possibilities, It allows you to connect to the internet, and access the real-time knowledge as an extension of one’s self. Imagine oneself internally vocalize a google query and receive its solution by bone conduction without any action which is observable. The platform aims to seek to augment human speech as a way to transmit information betweeen two people.

AlterEgo has many daily implementations, for example in telecommunication or to remind important things to oneself who ought to have short term memory. AlterEgo can also be worked upon with IoT and supposedly acts as a Bluetooth Speaker.

Unhackable Internet

W hy it matters?   The internet is increasingly vulnerable to hacking; a quantum one would be unhackable. Quantum Computing    A quantum internet could be used to send unhackable messages, improve the accuracy of GPS, and enable cloud-based quantum computing. For more than twenty years, dreams of creating such a the quantum network have remained out of reach in large part because of the difficulty to send quantum signals across large distances without loss.   Now, Harvard and MIT researchers have found a way to correct for signal loss with a prototype quantum node that can catch, store and entangle bits of quantum information. The research is the missing link towards a practical quantum internet and a major step forward in the development of long-distance quantum networks.   The U.S Department of Energy (DoE) explains how a quantum link will make it happen through two quantum phenomenon: the first is quantum entanglement, where two-particle ...

Impact of Social Media on Business

Watch out for that bird! Imagine you are skydiving, you are visiting one of the most beautiful countries in the world and you want to share that experience with your loved ones and friends. Why not send a postcard? Oh wait, you’re already back from the trip by the time that postcard has reached, or it got lost in the mail. If only there was an alternative. This isn’t 1990. You have a platter of platforms to share your adventure. Webster’s dictionary defines social media as-“ forms of electronic communication (such as websites for social networking and microblogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (such as videos).”In simple words, social media, are various public platforms where people can share their views, stories, etc. with the help of various mediums. Starting with websites such as MySpace, Orkut, and Facebook, etc. it is now estimated that there are about 200 social media websites in ...

Pegasus Spyware: Flying Through The Air

Hundreds of millions of people can't imagine life without their smartphones. Almost every aspect of their daily lives, from the most mundane to the most intimate, is within easy reach and hearing distance of their smartphones. Only few people realize that their phones may be used as surveillance devices, with someone hundreds of miles away secretly extracting their messages, photographs, and location while also activating their microphone and recording them in real time. Such capabilities are present in Pegasus, a spyware produced by NSO Group, an Israeli maker of mass surveillance weapons. What is Pegasus? Pegasus is a hacking software – or spyware – that is developed, marketed and licensed to governments around the world by the Israeli company NSO Group. It has the capability to infect billions of phones using either iOS or Android operating systems. The spyware is named after Pegasus, the white winged horse from Greek mythology. It is named so because it "flies through the...
